Women's Health, Preganacy, and Postpartum Healing
Pelvic and perineal pain, stress, anxiety, and muscle guarding can often be the result of non-relaxing pelvic floor muscles that are restricted or tight leading to sexual dysfunction.
Bowel and Bladder conditions are common health problems affecting millions of women. Bladder or bowel incontinence is leakage or urine or feces beyond your control. You may have unwanted passage of urine or stool that you can’t control during with stress (cough/laugh/sneeze), exercise, or on the way to the restroom. Although urinary incontinence becomes more common with age, pregnancy, and hormonal changes in women, it is NOT NORMAL. These conditions can be stressful to deal with. But don’t feel embarrassed about talking to your healthcare provider. They are used to dealing with these issues, and physical therapist can help you manage the problem. Be an advocated for yourself and take charge of your pelvic health.
Prenatal/Pregnancy - physical and hormonal changes occur from pregnancy which affects the musculoskeletal system. These changes can affect overall posture and alignment, shorten muscles, alter spinal alignment, and result in myofascial imbalances.
Post-Partum Care and Wellness - as a result of delivery, the body becomes altered in a way that poses musculoskeletal imbalances that can often cause core weakness, pelvic floor weakness, decrease mobility, and increased joint laxity that can have a direct affect on the function of structure of the pelvic floor.
Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a hernia of the pelvic organs to or through the vaginal or rectal opening. How does this happen? All of the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, and rectum) are supported by a complex “hammock” of muscles (pelvic floor muscles), ligaments, and fibers that attach to the bony anatomy of the pelvis. When these are weakened, those organs can drop. Types of pelvic organ prolapse treated but not limited to: Cystocele, Urethrocele, Rectocele, Enterocele, Rectal Prolapse, and Perineal descent syndrome.
